Many questions about valley fever remained unanswered after public health officials, physicians and politicians finished a two-day symposium on the disease, but officials and doctors alike were hopeful that the summit will be a turning point in the fight against valley fever.
Two of the country's top public health officials said they were leaving Bakersfield with a greater understanding of the disease's burden and a renewed commitment to solving its mysteries.
