Valley fever is an orphan disease, one that does not get a lot of research money. It can change your life forever.
"It's a bad disease, worse than people think and you'll be on drugs for the rest of your life," said Paula Einstein, a valley fever survivor.
Tuesday on "First Look with Scott Cox," Einstein and Sharon Borradori of the Valley Fever Americas Foundation talked about August's Walk for Valley Fever.
The goal of the walk is to raise awareness and support valley fever research, Borradori said.
Proceeds from the walk will go toward research of Nikkomycin Z, a drug that shows promise as a new treatment and cure for the disease.
"The more aware you are of its symptoms, the more likely you are to get tested," Borradori said.
