On September 23rd and 24th, 2013, Congressman Kevin McCarthy organized a Valley Fever Symposium which was held in Bakersfield.  Attending and speaking at this symposium was Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Tom Frieden and National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins.  The directors and their staffs had the opportunity to see our community’s involvement in fighting Valley Fever and share with our community the latest developments and advancements in Valley Fever research.

Congressional Valley Fever Task Force

In July 2013, Congressman McCarthy and Rep. David Schweikert launched the Congressional Valley Fever Task force to foster awareness in the fight against the disease. The Task Force’s goal is to share information with stakeholders in the medical and scientific fields to foster new advancements in prevention and treatment as well as work with community organizations to help educate individuals on the disease.
